Different Types of Glass Hand Pipes.

Oh, the places you’ll go!

There is fun to be done, points to be scored, and games to be won. We’ve all been to a shop, eyeballing all the hand pipes on display, and marveling over their design and structure. One question commonly asked is: “What the hell do these things do?” Cloud 9 Smoke Co is here to bring you on your “A-game” with all you need to know about the different types of hand pipes!

History of Pipes

Hand pipes have been around since we learned to start and control fire. The first pipes ever used were dated back to 2000 BC. Cool right? Pipes were used in part of ceremonies throughout history, nicknamed by Native Americans as “peace pipes.” Hand pipes you stumble across now are typically made from glass. However, hand pipes have been made from clay, wood, bamboo, and other natural or organic material way back in the day. The advantages of modern day glass hand pipe craftsmanship gives artists and consumers features that most historical pipes could not compare to today.

Different Types of Pipes

A one-hitter, or a chillum, is a cylindrical tube made for dry herb use, whether it be tobacco or CBD herb. These products are used by placing herb in one end of the piece and inhaled through the other, almost like a cigarette. Chillums, or one-hitters, hold enough herb for one hit, hence their name. These are great for portability and can be carried in your pocket for a quick fix, whenever you need it. An accessory your one-hitter, or chillum, can be paired with is a dugout, which is a case that fits in your pocket and is home for your one hitter and dry herb.

Spoon Pipes

Spoon pipes are made from glass and take on the architecture of a spoon. This style of hand pipe is the most popular and can be found in many different designs, colors, and styles. There are so many styles of spoon pipes on the market, it’s pretty much impossible not to find one of these products perfect for you! Spoon pipes are efficient in their functionality, take up little space, and are great for low-key tokers. When you look at a spoon pipe, you’ll notice the piece will have a bowl, which is where you pack your dry herb; carb, which lets you release smoke that builds up in the chamber; stem, and mouthpiece.

Sherlock-style Pipes

Sherlock-style hand pipes are a traditional style of pipe that has a popular “U” shape to it from the mouth piece to the bowl. The arched design of sherlock pipes allows the smoke to cool a bit longer before inhaling the smoke from your dry herb! You may have seen this water pipe used by Mr. Sherlock Holmes himself; this style of water pipe brings an honorable mention to the hand pipe design.

Steamroller Pipes

Steamroller hand pipes are designed for tokers who enjoy heavy-hitting rips. They are long, glass cylinders with a bowl on top and both ends of the cylinder are completely open. Their design is similar to the chillum and offers a straight-shot from the bowl to the mouthpiece with the open end serving as your carb.

Bubbler Pipes

Bubbler pipes are made of glass and have the ability to hold water. In comparison to traditional hand-pipes, bubblers feature a stem with their bowl to hold the bowl in place while penetrating water in the bottom reservoir. Using a bubbler offers the additional percolation and cooling of your smoke, which offers greater, smoother hits. Bubblers come in a large variety of sizes, styles, and designs but function similarly in process. There is no doubt there is a special bubbler waiting for you!
